Bing SEO - Should be Focused on Quality...

Businesses looking to tweak their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies for Bing should ensure they offer a good user experience.

This is according to Cedric Chambaz of Microsoft, who told Computing magazine that one of the ways in which Bing's algorithm differs from Google's is the fact that it looks at how users interact with a particular page.

For example, if the user clicks on a search result and realises that it is not what they are looking for, they will click the 'back' button, suggesting they have had "a poor user experience that shows the content doesn't match the intentions of the consumer", Mr Chambaz commented.

"The algorithm can learn from that by observing that pattern."

He advised SEO executives to focus on using only the most relevant keywords on their websites as well as including as much local information as possible.

Businesses should also steer clear of black hat SEO techniques like listing keywords in white text on a white background, as search engine algorithms are intelligent enough to detect such tactics, Mr Chambaz said.

Jasmine Batra, chief executive of Arrow Marketing, recently told SmartCompany that it is important to follow search engines' rules regarding black hat SEO as failing to do so damages the user experience.
